News Release - Three best sellers join BestSelling Reads!!

February 24, 2014 – Three bestselling authors in very different genres have joined Bestselling Reads: Seb Kirby, DelSheree Gladden and Mimi Barbour.

Seb Kirby is author of the James Blake Thriller series (Take No More, Regret No More and, coming in March this year, Forgive No More) and the Raymond Bridges sci-fi thriller series (Double Bind).

DelSheree Gladden is the author of several fantasy series, including the Twin Souls saga, the Destroyer Trilogy and several other works.

Mimi Barbour is the latest addition to the group, and is author of 17 books, including several romance series and a children’s book.

“My biggest pleasure in being asked to join this group is knowing that I will be working among my peers and that they will be challenging my efforts as a writer,” Ms. Barbour said. “I look forward to brainstorming and learning as much about the industry as I can from those who have made it their business to be knowledgeable.”

“It’s a real honor to be with such a talented roster of internationally recognized authors,” says Seb Kirby. “It’s going to be a real pleasure working with the great authors at Bestselling Reads and helping to get the word out on the wealth of talented writing within the group.”

“Every member has an area of expertise that can help other authors grow. I'm so impressed with how willing everyone is to give advice when it’s needed and spread the word about each other’s books” says DelSheree Gladden. “I hope not only to grow as an author and help the other authors in the group by sharing what I have learned as an indie author over the years, but also to help introduce readers to a world of fabulous indie books they may not find otherwise.”

About BestSelling Reads

Mimi Barbour lives on the beautiful east coast of Vancouver Island and writes her romances with tongue in cheek and a mad glint in her eye. Asked why she prefers this genre, she answers, chuckling, “Because it’s fun! Imagination can be a lot more interesting than what happens in real life to so-called ‘normal’ people. I love my characters, and my goal is to make the readers love them also. If I can steal my book-lover’s attention away from their everyday grind, absorb them in a fictional world, and make them care about the ending, then I’ve done my job.” Her books include:

        the Vicarage Bench Series

        Angels with Attitudes Series

        Vegas Series

and her newest endeavour, Elvis Stories.

Coming soon – Undercover FBI Series!

DelSheree Gladden lives in New Mexico with her husband and two children. The Southwest is a big influence in her writing because of its culture, beauty, and mythology. Local folk lore is strongly rooted in her writing, particularly ideas of prophecy, destiny, and talents born from natural abilities. Her works include Escaping Fate, Twin Souls Saga, The Destroyer Trilogy, and Invisible. Look for Wicked Power, the next book in the SomeOne Wicked This Way Comes Series, Intangible, book two in the Aerling Series, and Soul Stone, book two in the Escaping Fate Series, coming in 2014.

Seb Kirby was literally raised with books – his grandfather ran a mobile library in Birmingham, UK and his parents inherited a random selection of the books. Once he discovered a trove of well-used titles from Zane Gray’s Riders of the Purple Sage, HG Wells’ The Invisible Man and Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities to more obscure stuff, he was hooked. He’s been an avid reader ever since.

He is author of the James Blake thriller series, Take No More, Regret No More and, coming soon, Forgive No More, and the science-fiction thriller, Double Bind.

Elvis reincarnated!! Truly - you have to see the video for yourself!

What a crazy coincidence.!!

Just at the time when I'm writing books about the King, I come across this wonderful young man from Canada who is amazingly like Elvis. The way he sings is fantastic. With your eyes closed, it's hard to tell the difference.

This teenage heartthrob, David Thibault, will soon be known by a lot of people and chances are, he won't know what hit him. I wish him all the very best with a career that will blossom overnight.

If you love the King and would like to have the next Elvis book in this series dedicated to you,
have your name as one of the characters
and have your favorite Elvis Presley song as the title,
then make sure and enter the

Elvis "Make a Song a Book" contest.

On till the end of the month at...

Your book will look similar to the first book in the series called She's Not You!!

Who wants to belong to a “Critique” group when the very name says it all!?

Well… I did. Once!

Even today I’m not sure if it was a positive experience or not. First of all, the five of us belonged to the same RWA chapter and so we were able to meet in person. That certainly adds a different level to the interactions. Let’s face it, what you might write to a person you’ve never met just isn’t as easy to say in front of them especially when others are present.

Also, keep in mind that everyone has a different response when it comes to their work. We’re all possessive to a certain extent. Some of us more so! Truthfully, some get downright huffy if a point is made they don’t agree with. So it’s the old tippy-toeing to try and mention a mistake or weakness while the idea of giving your honest opinion goes out the window.

As much as I wanted to do my best for the other writers, it’s not easy telling someone you like, that the way they wrote a certain passage could be done a lot better. (In your opinion!) Or that they’ve used way too many words on something that didn’t warrant them. (In your opinion!) How about when it’s the pacing that’s bad, POV hopping, uninteresting characters, not enough emotion, or maybe the whole dang chapter should just be obliterated.

Then what do you do?

Decide that you know best? Try and sincerely help by swallowing your fear and let concern for their work take over. Maybe point out their weaknesses?

Probably lose a friend?

Our group didn’t last too long. The lunches were lovely. The sharing of information very helpful. Brainstorming new plots was a high point of the time we spent together. But enjoying the critique part – for me – not so much!

The lesson I came away with – my editors could say the same things to me in a much more down-to-earth manner and I would totally accept that they knew better than I did. So… from now on it’s between me and them.

This was just my experience. I happen to know of an author who takes days to get over feeling horrible after being with her critique partners. She began questioning her talents, wondering if she should rewrite her work because of their amateur sentiments. Now, is that right? Does that help any author particularly one who’s unpublished?

I think not…

On the other hand, there are many of my colleagues who love their partners, depend on their critiques to make their work shine and happily give up their time to read and correct each other's writing. If you are one of these lucky ones, please tell us how  you've managed it.

Valentine's Day treat!! Four books under one cover - full of romance and magic!!

Especially for Valentine’s Day 2014, I’ve put together a set of lovely romances that will bring you only pleasure!! Love, magic and suspense all wrapped up under one cover.

Surrogate’s Secret***Spicy romance takes place in the romantic city of Santiago, South America. Surrogate twin’s futures are contested when a rich uncle from Chile decides he has the right to take them back to their father’s homeland. The birth mother ends up marrying him to keep her babies and the battle begins.

She’s Not You***Sweet and tender, this story is like the words of the famous song that Elvis sings so dreamily. Our hero meets a new girl who starts replacing the fantasies of his old love. Except, as the song goes, he thinks – it’s breaking my heart cause she’s not you. But will he continue to believe that?

She’s Me***Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have another soul move in and take up residence in your body - two of you having to share one brain? What if you’re in love and the other persona can help you win your man?

Partners***Every good series must begin somewhere. With characters who need an introduction. With a plot that will drive those characters into changing the path they travel, find something in each other and start a whole new future. A future full of action that never stops - constant conflicts and a whole lot of loving.

Select program - Yes or No? #Amazon #Indie

Changes in KDP Select: in the KDP FAQs on Amazon's site, it states:

"All content made exclusive to Amazon in KDP Select must remain for sale on our site only; it cannot be available for free or for purchase in digital format anywhere else, including publishing the content of your book on the web, including on your own website, blog, etc. However, you may choose to make up to 10% of your book available on other sites as a sample, as well as continue to distribute your book in physical format …" Means you can use excerpts here and there now. Finally!

I was recently tagged on Facebook with this blurb by a best-selling author friend of mine. She’d previously warned me to be careful about putting any parts of my Select books out on the internet – blogs, promo sites, etc. Even my own website.

Now I admit to breaking this rule over the past when I wanted to share certain parts of my story on my website or a blog. It worried me that I might be defying an Amazon mandate – not something I wanted to do. But we all know how portions of a story can captivate a potential reader.

That rule had been one of my personal hang-ups with the Select program. Therefore, I’m glad it’s been rectified.

I know many other authors refuse to be restricted by Amazon’s market manipulation and so won’t give up their right to sell on various sites. And I say - your choice! Those authors believe they can more than make up the monetary difference by being diverse rather than having 5days every 3 months of free promos, Prime lending revenues and the countdown deals.

Personally, I’m very happy with having my books in the Select program. The three reasons already stated are, of course, huge. And would be on the top of my list as to why I’ve elected to go this route. Another importance for me is that I have been with the Freepartay group for a few years now and having my books available at any time for their promos has been necessary.

Maybe the most relevant (and to be truthful) embarrassing reason I’ve stayed in Select is because I’m so strapped for time. I can’t seem to slide out of my writing and marketing commitments long enough to organise all the necessary changes publishing in more than one market would entail. Phew – that’s a long one!! Sentence I mean. But it is a fact.

When I think of having to release all my 20-plus books on those other sites, I cringe. For a challenged techie like myself, it would mean a lot of work, probably many mistakes since they seem to haunt me whenever I try anything new and mega frustration I’d rather bypass. (Wuss, that I am.)

So, until I can either afford to pay someone to take on that grind or it becomes critical to have my books available elsewhere, I will continue supporting the KDP Select program and be glad they treat me as well as they do.

Welcome my English friend, Katy Walters - multi-published author of A Lady's Plight! @bluesytee

Today I want to welcome my wonderful friend from England, Katy Walters, who has greatly entertained me with her many stories. She writes in multiple genres and knows just how to make her characters become someone for you to care about.

I live in a Sussex village near to the Regency towns of Brighton and the Pavilion, the dream of the Prince Regent. Nearby is Arundel, the seat of the Duke of Norfolk, the castle dating back to medieval times, the ancient ramparts towering over the small town.  Then there is Chichester, every street a Regency portrait and Bath, which is a novelist’s delight. All of these towns create an ethos echoing Regency life.

Before writing a novel, I visit one of them to soak up the elegance of the architecture, trying to enter the atmosphere of those far-gone times.  Whilst walking through narrow cobbled streets I imagine the carriage rollicking past, of ladies in Empire fashion, of feathered bonnets and velvet pelisses, of nankeen breeches and starched cravats. Even today, the same bay fronted shop windows replete with mullioned windows yawn over narrow pavements.  The only changes being the wares; an empire dress swapped for a top and miniskirt. Best of all, is stepping down rickety steps into an oak beamed tearoom, with a leaning floor, where log fires crackle in open grates, the air filled with the rich aroma of tansy and cinnamon cakes.

Excerpt      A Lady’s Plight

Chapter One.

'How could you? You promised.' She leapt to her feet, sending the bucket of champagne tumbling on the grass. 'I've waited four years - four years.'

Reaching to save the bottle, Lord Alexander Fitzroy, the Earl of Standford spluttered, 'Deuce Isa, I can hardly refuse can I?'

'What about the wedding, the arrangements, the guests?'

'I have no choice; the invitation - command rather was given into my hand, this morning. General Maddeson expects me as his aide-de-campe in Brussels.'

'You could say no - just this once. He knew of our nuptials; he's a guest for pity's sake.'

Alexander rose to his feet, his arms outstretched to placate her. He’d planned an idyllic picnic, hors d'oeuvres, ham, chicken, goose foie gras and champagne, now he faced her wrath. 'Bonaparte escaped Elba; he's in France. The General's request is an honour I cannot refuse. I would be ostracized from the regiment - egad, from the ton.'

'Don't start talking about honour. You use that each time.'

His eyes embraced her bosom heaving with anger. In two long strides, he grabbed her, drawing her close, intending to kiss her to silence.

Struggling she gasped, 'Unhand me Alex, this time you will not win.'

Smiling, he held her fast, 'Look, I shall be back within a couple of months. We can then marry. I'm sure the countess will delay the nuptials?'

'She's already delayed them each year for four years. Dammit - let me go.'

Perceiving he was laughing at her, anger surged through her body, pumping blood to her head. How dare he treat marriage so lightly, it was an insult to her and her family. Gritting her teeth, she stamped on his foot.

Eyebrows raised, his sea blue eyes twinkling, he said, 'I think that hurt you more than it did me.'

She grimaced; he was right; her silk slippers had little effect on heavy Hessian boots. 'Let me go.'

His answer was to drag her down on the blanket, smothering her face with kisses. He felt her loosen against him, her lips quivering. Raising his head, he said, 'I love you Isabella - we will be together - soon.'

She willed herself not to give in; it would mean another year of waiting, another year without him. She wanted to be his wife, to wake up to him every morning. She had to fight him for this.

She wilted, only to take a deep breath, and clench her teeth. No, he wouldn't win. Before their engagement, he was a rake of the first order. With his raven black hair dressed in the Brutus style, the curls framed a face that modelled a Grecian statue; God knows how many hapless girls he had seduced? However, on offering for her, he promised to remain faithful. Yet, even now, he may have a mistress installed in Brussels. 'If you must go, then I will go with you,'

He raised his head, and sitting up, drew her to him. 'No sweetheart, you can't. You will meet with too many dangers. I will not be around to protect you all the time.'

'You have a mistress out there haven't you?'

'Darling I am true to you - God knows why, with your temper.'

'Temper? Is fighting for my rights mere temper? Besides, a couple of my friends are already out in Brussels having a grand time, dinners, the theatre, opera, and lavish balls. So I shall join them.'

'I forbid it; I will not allow you to put yourself in jeopardy. In this, you will obey me.'

Isabella's face reddened, narrowing the jade eyes. 'What? Forbid? Not allow? Obey? Whom do you think you're addressing - some nincompoop - some ignoramus unpicking her embroidery?'

'Look I don't want to frighten you, but war is imminent. Women out there could lose their lives. We cannot trust the little Corsican.'

Pushing him away, Isabella rose to her knees, her hands fisted on her hips. 'Don't tell me what is not good for me. I will make my own choices. And, never - ever use that word obey again. '

#Valentine - love, #magic and #suspense all wrapped up in new collection called "HEARTS, FLOWERS & ROMANCE”.

I have decided that Valentine’s Day is to be respected as the day for romance all around the world. And therefore, as a romance writer, I must offer my readers a treat to celebrate. Trust me to make this decision at the last hour so that we’ve been running around like Crazies trying to get this set organized. Not sure if my formatter will ever speak to me again and the cover artist’s last e-mail had an explosive sign on the bottom…..kidding! Sort-a!!

Wanting to bring out the best possible love stories for this collection, I took two of my most recent releases and put them in first. Then I pondered the other two selections. Hummm! It’s rather nice to be able to have multiple choices since I have a number of books available.

Because I now have three active series’ and another with one book published, I went with the brilliant idea that if I used book #1 from those series’, then the readers would fall in love with those first stories and decide to order the following ones. Here’s hoping the idea bears results.

Back Page Blurb:

Surrogate’s Secret***Spicy romance takes place in the romantic city of Santiago, South America.
